Merchants Bank of Alabama

Merchants Bank of Alabama has joined the SouthPoint Bank family

We are excited to announce that SouthPoint Bank has finalized its acquisition of Merchants Bank of Alabama. This is an exciting time as two leading community-focused banks are joining forces to serve our customers with “Way Better Banking,” as the Merchants team says. We believe that our two banks are stronger as one. Merchants Bank of Alabama turns 115 years old this year, and we believe there’s simply no better way to mark this anniversary as one of the longest-running community banks in the state.

Our History
As of January 5, 2022, Merchants has become a division of SouthPoint Bank. Because of the bank’s longstanding presence and name recognition in the Cullman market, this division will retain its name. President and CEO Charles NeSmith has made the transition to the new bank and will serve as Executive Vice President and North Alabama Market President. Additionally, the Merchants leadership team will continue to make decisions at a local level for their market, and there will be no layoffs or branch closings as it relates to the merger. As part of the merger, Merchants board members Steven Glasscock, Judy Butler and Andrew Ratliff will join the SouthPoint Bank board of directors.
